Vera Molnar

Art theorist Eugen Gomringer has characterized Vera Molnar‘s work as “a fingerprint of humanity: so many lives, so many different profiles”. Molnar‘s œuvre encompasses an almost inexhaustible diversity of creative means and forms of artistic expression. Besides geometric figures – led by the square – she has developed various series with her free use of line. She not only uses pen and pencil but also the computer. Molnar has worked with this technical aid for more than 40 years now. She describes the possibilities the computer offers to her in the following way: “Thanks to an immense number of possible combinations, the computer helps us with systematic research in the visual field, helping to free the painter from cultural ‚ready mades‘ and find combinations of forms never seen before, in nature or museums: it helps us to produce inconceivable images.” […]
Vera Molnar studied painting, as well as art history and aesthetics at the College of Fine Art in Budapest from 1942 to 1947.
She produced her first computer graphics as early as 1968. From 1974 to 1976 she developed her own software program “MolnArt”. […] She is regarded as an international pioneer of Computer Art and received the first “d.velop digital art award” (ddaa) for her life‘s work in 2005. In 2007 she was awarded the “Ordre des Arts et des Lettres”. In 2012 she received the French award “Chevalier de l‘ordre de la Légion d‘honneur” and the Hungarian “Ordre du Mèrite”.1
