Angela de la Cruz

Made of hollow, angular aluminum forms painted in red and brown hues, Angela de la Cruz‘s Crate (Red with Brown Box) from 2017 incorporates a filing cabinet that has been bent and crushed. The piece exemplifies the artist’s innovative approach to blending painting and sculpture and the narrative quality that underlies her work. Contrasting de la Cruz’s contemplative and meditative painting process with a clear notion of tension and violence – Crate becomes a representation of materiality and body, in motion between strength and fragility; between the beautiful and the broken, tension and relaxation.
