The upper edge of the slab has been flamed. As a result, the stone loses its translucency at this point. Alabaster is a natural variation of plaster. Church windows made of this stone can still be found in southern Europe today.

David Semper

A central issue of Semper`s work concerns the relationship between time in terms of cultural history and time in terms of geological history, the time passed and the time passing. This relationship outlines space as an interface of the most varying material processes beyond the state of its clearly defined dimensions.
