It is apparent and yet confusing: the objects on the wall are real fruits and vegetables! Many – such as Joseph Beuys’s lemon (Capri Battery, 1985) – have already had a career in the art world and achieved cult status. Others – such as red cabbage, fennel, leeks, pineapple, eggplant, and peppers – are making their debut on this marketplace. Karin Sander is a master of minimal interventions who gives every-day objects new visibility and value by changing their context. There is, of course, an element of humor in the act of hanging something that is so spry and readymade on the wall of the museum and watching how it gradually ages, changes its state, and decays.
