Reling (German for railing) consists of seven square steel supports connected by a flat steel bar with a white PVC coating, as known from handrails from the 1950s. The construction forms an L-shape.
A railing is supposed to provide support on unstable ground. But this one doesn‘t seem to be doing its job: the horizontal connections, steel and rigid, sag as if they were made of rubber. The L-shape also raises questions: What is being sectioned off here? Who is this railing protecting? Who is being given support? And does the floor really sway?
Reling is a spatial drawing that considers the movements of the exhibition visitors and, as an absurd guidance system, raises questions.
