PALIANYTSIA 2022 is a humanitarian art project by artist Zhanna Kadyrova, co-created with Denys Ruban. All proceeds go to support Ukrainian soldiers and artists currently serving in the military, as well as other humanitarian needs.
After Russia’s full-scale invasion, the artists found themselves in the mountains and created a series of objects made from river stones shaped like a palianytsia — a traditional Ukrainian bread. During the war, this word gained additional symbolic meaning, serving as a way to distinguish friend from foe at checkpoints.
