ANTON QUIRING

*1970 in Kurgan Tjube, TJ, lives and works in Dresden

The work Vermessen is characterised by the interplay of symmetry and its disruption. It is THE moment of vitalisation, a mathematics of the living – not ideal measurements, but lived measurements.

Ideal proportion and living reality are never absolutely congruent. In order for art to become a living counterpart, deviation is the prerequisite. It is the principle of the vitalising break that triggers and enables movement – how fitting that Quiring has measured his points of articulation here of all places, those parts of his body that allow him to move in the first place. Concentrating on the essentials, in the style of minimalism, Anton Quiring shows us the extremes of the human being: in his symmetrical appearance, man conveys the idea of perfection within himself – in other words, the divine. At the same time, however, this perfection is disturbed by the vivid fractures of his disproportionality – this is probably our inherent fallibility. Pure symmetry would be a sign of the highest perfection and is reserved for the divine or the industrially produced, the dead.
