DIALOGUES OF COLOUR – since 1970. Jo Kuhn

DIALOGUES OF COLOURS
since 1970. Jo Kuhn
Jo Kuhn has dedicated himself entirely to colour since six decades now: “Engaging with painting is a mental act that is triggered directly by colour via the eye and the senses. Colour in painting allows for an equally direct and broad access to sensation as sound does in music. Colour offers its rich spectrum to the most subtle and lyrical sensations that cannot be put into words. The pull of silence that can emanate from painting is one of its powerful impressions.” (Jo Kuhn)
For the first time, this extensive museum’s solo exhibition presents works from all phases of his continually growing oeuvre, from large-format resin wax paintings on canvas to gouaches and pastels on paper to current pigment prints, impressively demonstrating Jo Kuhn’s multifaceted and consistent development.
Hans Joachim ‘Jo’ Kuhn was born in Mülheim an der Ruhr in 1935. After spending time in Spain and Düsseldorf, he lived in Bad Sassendorf from 1978 to 1984, where he also shaped the regional art scene, for example with exhibitions in Soest at the Alte Fabrik, the Kunstpavillon and the Morgnerhaus, and as a founding member of the Kunstverein Kreis Soest. In 1984, he moved to the Eifel region, and from 1991 onwards, he was the spokesperson for the gruppe konkret for many years. In 2015, he moved to Soest, where he still lives and works today.
His works have been exhibited at the Museum Abtei Liesborn, Museum für Konkrete Kunst, Ingolstadt, Museum Modern Art Hünfeld and the Institut für konstruktive Kunst und konkrete Poesie, Rehau, as well as in museums and galleries throughout Europe. Since 2006, they have been a regular feature of the Salon de Réalités Nouvelles in Paris.
In 2021, Jo Kuhn generously entrusted the Stiftung Konzeptuelle Kunst with his bequest, comprising several hundred works.
